I am at a new breakfast place, well new to me. I planned to take the day off and go to the spa, but my spa day got cancelled because the spa technician is out sick. Cancellations brought on by labor shortages are the norm in a every facet of life. I would go for a run, but it is 100% humidity and raining off and on, which is not great for my already troubled lungs. Instead, I lifted weights at the gym, and I am now waiting for my breakfast.
I just took a look back through the local news stories. Yesterday, the bodies of two gunshot victims were discovered at a house on a street that Potatoe and I frequently run and walk down. The street is a cul-de-sac. Potatoe cannot run as hard for as long as I can, so he likes the cul-de-sacs. He waits for me at the beginning of the cul-de-sac; I run down, turn around and run back to him while he piddles around.
The preliminary report is that the two dead bodies are the result of a murder suicide. While I do not know the victims well, I absolutely do not believe that this is possible. Neither of them could hurt anyone, much less one another. I always liked small talking with them when Potatoe and I passed back and forth on our walks.
A second local news story that I find myself thinking about is a CyFair school district teacher arrested for felony endangerment of her own thirteen-year-old child. She put the child in the trunk of the car because the child likely had Covid, and she wanted to get him tested without getting infected herself. This absolutely has a “people in the world have lost their minds” feel to it. There is no question that this is a severe lapse in judgement on her part. However, suspending her from her job, putting her picture all over the news and internet, and arresting her is not the answer. We are all faced with out of the norm situations because of the pandemic. We all need to do the best that we can, and we all need to work together to help each other. We need to give people grace, not pass judgement and ridicule. I hope that the court realizes this.
Back to the day at hand, I needed the time that I got back from my cancelled spa appointment. I have a great deal to get done this weekend, everything from stuff for work, to cleaning the filthy house, to grocery shopping. The fur kids got into a package of toilet paper. In what looks to have been a team effort, they scattered the rolls of toilet paper throughout the house and tore them to shreds. In comedic relief, while Trooper and Potatoe hid when I discovered and started cleaning up the mess, the kittens seemed to think that I wanted to join in the fun of littering the house with toilet paper. They jumped around playfully, purring and pawing my hands while I worked to pick up the scraps of toilet paper.
Before heading to the gym this morning, I took Brainy Bird to the airport. Life is back to the “normal”. Weird that normal is now Brainy Bird away at college. Cancelled flights, due to labor shortages and bad weather, continue to be an ongoing issue. We are happy that Brainy Bird’s flight left on time. He is now in flight to Columbia, South Carolina.
I plan to make today into a productive day starting with a to-do list that will include the grocery shopping. I need to get some healthy foods into the empty fridge. The boys and I ate every single meal that we planned and purchased groceries for over the holiday. This was great for my wallet as we hardly ate out at all, but now there is nothing left, and it is time to go back to the store.
The holidays are officially over, and 2022 is in full swing, stay tuned!
