I have that Kenny Chesney song, “Out Last Night” running through my head, except I can only remember the first line, “We went out last night.” That about sums it up. I actually went out two nights this past week, and I had a great deal of fun both nights with last night being the most fun of the two.

The evening started with dinner with Yvonne (DogMom) and her husband and three of his coworkers from out of town. Sadly, the way that we wound up all together at dinner is that our friend Scott invited them, and he was hosting them. Unfortunately, he had to leave town unexpectedly because his mother passed away. We then became the hosts for the out-of-town guests.

A single day depicted both sides of the pandemic. We are beginning to reclaim our lives, and it feels really good to be socializing again. At the same time Covid is still out there, and Covid is still taking people’s lives.

Dinner took place at our favorite restaurant. I decided to delay my diet for the Super Bowl weekend, and I went for the hotdog and onion rings. If I am going to cheat on my diet, I would argue that is the way to do it. After dinner, we headed to what was my favorite bar before the pandemic. I excited and surprised to find out that they were not only having live music, but it was country music. The guy also played a lot of classic rock.

Yvonne and her husband are hosting a Super Bowl party today, so they called it a night around 10:30. I remained with our out-of-town guests, and we were enjoying the music. I am not sure how the subject of mechanical bull riding came up, but as soon as it did, we were closing our tabs and headed to Whiskey River. Whiskey River is a country dance hall near where I live. A country dance hall is the perfect place to take someone from New York.

We had a blast. I got asked to dance the second we walked in the door, and that set the tone for the evening. I dance. I ran into a few people that I know through the schools in Tomball, and I enjoyed the music. I found funny that there were some new country songs that I did not recognize. Two of the out-of-town guests are under thirty, and they were both singing right along.

Toward the end of the evening, I found myself standing alone at the bar next to an incredibly attractive man. With nothing to lose, I introduced myself. We hit it off immediately. He is about my age, and he is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Go Gamecocks! I gave him my phone number before heading home, and we plan to have a date soon.

Now, I am looking forward to a day of Super Bowl festivities. It feels great to be reclaiming my pre-pandemic life.

Go Bengals! Go Rams! I am not sure who to root for. I am going for the friendships!
