I am on the fence about what to do this weekend for MS150 training. Brainy Bird and Little Chirp (previously known as Baby) are going to be with their dad this weekend, so it gives me a great opportunity to get some training in on both Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, there is a 62 mile ride in the Brenham area with major hllls. The elevation is more than 3,000 feet. According to the experienced cyclists at my office, that is a lot. Another option is a ride in Misouri City, which is a much lesser feat. I want to do the tough ride for two reasons – 1 – A guy at work sort of suggested it is too hard a ride for me and 2 – This should be awesome prepartion for the upcoming 180 mile MS150 ride.
To be honest, I am scared of getting out there on the tough 62 mile ride and not being able to complete the ride. I am ridiculous on bike, falling over, getting lost, not having the right equipment from no spare tire to little reflector pedals, but being laughed at because of all this does not phase me at all; however, I can’t stand the idea of being seen as a quitter that can’t finish the ride. I think we are too harsh on quitters because they are one up on those that never try at all, but still I can not stand the idea of being labelled a quitter.
On Sunday, there is a bluebonnet ride that everyone is doing. It is a reasonable amount of hills. I am happy to finally be getting two back to back rides in. The MS150 is two days of riding, and I need to be ready for that.
In the morning, I will make a decision on whether to go for the challenging Saturday ride on the easier one.
