2015 – Week 1 – Kicking Off a Great Year

The first full week of the new year is nearing to an end.  The Birds and I are snuggled up on the couch watching the Baltimore Ravens versus the New England Patriots in the second round of the NFL playoffs.  Right now the Ravens are winning 14-0.  Tom Brady, New England’s quarterback, has the most post-season wins by a quarterback in NFL history.  I love NFL football.  The big highlight for me this year is that the Dallas Cowboys are in the mix.  They had a crazy win last week over the Detroit Lions.  The Cowboys meet up with the Green Bay Packers at noon for what is going to be a FREEZING day.

It is even cold here.  Brainy Bird got a high end electric scooter for Christmas, and there has only been one day since Christmas that it wasn’t either raining or too cold to take it for a ride.  That day was Tuesday this week, which was also the first day back to school after Christmas break.  This brings me to my top 3 highlights of the week.  Each week, these highlights will be things that made me happy, things that made me laugh, things that I want to remember.  Honestly, the new year is off to a great start, and I had difficulty narrowing it down to three highlights this week.  This week’s highlights, in chronological order:

Tuesday, January 13th, the Birds returned to school.  Both boys got right to their homework when they got home, and I wrapped up my work as soon as I was done with my last conference call that afternoon.  The three of us then headed excitedly out the door to try out the Christmas scooters. Brainy Bird zipped away on his electric scooter before Little Chirp and I even had his inertia propelled scooter out of the garage.  The weather was amazing, and we had a blast cruising around the neighborhood on our new Christmas rides.  We drained every last drop of daylight out of the sunset before we headed inside.  It is the simple things in life. 🙂

Wednesday, January 14th, it was a hectic workday, and I was aggravated with myself for not having winterized my sprinkler system earlier that week.  The weather was supposed to reach freezing temperatures that night, and if you don’t winterize the sprinkler system, it will freeze and you will be spending a couple of hundred dollars to replace the pipes when they burst from the expansion of the frozen water in them.  I knew that I was going to have to work late, and that I wasn’t going to have time to go home and winterize the system before my trivia night started at my favorite sports bar.  I really missed my trivia buddies over the holidays, and I was sad to be at best running late for trivia if not missing it all together.  Then I got a text from GuyNextDoor saying that he hoped I didn’t mind but that he had winterized the system for me.  This made my day.  As expected, I was indeed at work late that night, but I still made it to trivia night afterwards.  The whole gang was there for the first game of 2015, and we won decisively.  It was super fun night.

Thursday, January 15th, my gal pals, Em, K and I met up for the first time in forever at Flemings.  Flemings used to be our regular happy hour hang out.  It was great that the three of us were back together.  We had lots to talk about.  It was an added perk to the evening that I had a hundred dollar gift card to pick up the tab with.  The gift card was from a recognition reward at work.  Little do Em and K know that I was holding out on them.  I actually had 2 gift cards.  I look forward to enjoying another happy hour at Flemings with them soon.

We will be wrapping the first full week of the new year up with Brainy Bird heading to ITZ this evening for a birthday party, and Little Chirp and I will be grabbing a special dinner together and watching the Carolina Panthers take on the Seattle Seahawks.

I believe that 2015 is my year.

Happy New Year!
