All of the fur kids and human kids are in the middle of afternoon naps. Potatoe is on the floor next to my desk chair, and the Murph is under my desk chair, snoring softly. About a foot away, Winter rests peacefully on Murph’s new giant dog bed. That is the way we roll in the Storey home.
Before naptime commenced, Little Chirp prepared steaks, mashed potatoes, snow peas, and mushrooms for lunch. The meal was perfect. While Little Chirp cooked, Brainy Bird and I looked at the meal plans for college next year. After lunch, I told Brainy Bird that he was in charge of clean up. Little Chirp said, “I will help you.”
I am now relaxing after lunch with the murmur of the dishwasher and Murph’s snoring the only sounds. We plan to spend the evening watching the latest season of “The Umbrella Academy”, and enjoying snacks, namely homemade fondue, brought to us by Little Chirp. Brainy Bird already let us know that he has plans with his friends this evening, but that he will be around for the fondue.
We are all in great places right now. Brainy Bird is crushing it at his internship. He is financially independent, and most importantly, he is happy. Little Chirp starts high school in the fall, and he is definitely ready. He is confident, kind, and he has an incredible work ethic. The fur kids are living their best lives.
Tomorrow is brother time day in a different way than usual brother time. I want the day to myself to do some writing, personal paperwork, and to get ahead of some of my tasks for work. Brainy Bird is going to take Little Chirp and two of their friends to TopGolf. The two friends are brothers, so it will be double brother time.
It is weekends like this that we spend time together as a family, and we calibrate ourselves.
