Today, we celebrate our nation’s birthday. Good Morning America seems like appropriate programming for this morning. The top story is inflation’s impact on gas prices and the cost of traditional cook out supplies to celebrate the fourth. The second major story is shopping deals one can find this holiday weekend verses the upcoming Amazon Prime Day. My big holiday weekend shopping consisted of purchasing a laptop for work. I have been watching prices ever since I got approval to purchase a new machine. My patience paid off; I got the laptop that I wanted for 30% off yesterday.

It is only eight in the morning. Both of the boys are still sleeping. All three kitties are outside enjoying the day before it becomes unbearably hot. Murphey and Potatoe are teaming up together against the robot vacuum cleaner. I never run the vacuum on the weekends because I like the peaceful mornings. I always run it on Monday’s; I should have held off until tomorrow. The determined little cleaning device is disturbing our peaceful holiday morning. It does make me smile to see the dogos working together.

I treat the start of July, which marks the mid-point of the year, the same as I treat the new year. I reflect on the first half of the year, and set goals for the next half of the year. I will spend my day planning and organizing, while the boys enjoy brother time. I even made my favorite French press coffee to commemorate the start of new of new healthy habits.

In the next six months, I plan to get back into shape. Murphey has some work to do to get into shape, so we will work together. I want to lose twenty pounds, just over three pounds a month. I also want to run a sub-two-hour marathon in the fall. I want to double down at work, and I want to manage my finances better. I want to become way more social. I spend too much time alone; it is not healthy. Every week, I want to go somewhere new, or make plans to do the things that I love, like dinner at R&R Crafthouse with Yvonne, and brunch at Black Walnut. I want to take the dogs fun and new places. I am kicking things off next week with an owner/dog training class with Murphey. My giant puppy and I are going to learn new tricks.

The Fourth of July celebrates the beginning of the greatest nation in the world; let it also mark the beginning of goal setting and new personal disciplines. Now, I am hungry for a hot dog. I am not sure how that fits in with my new health goals.

Thank you for stopping by to read my thoughts. May you and yours have a wonderful Fourth of July.
