The boys spent the week at Slumber Falls in New Braunfels, TX. Slumber Falls is an overnight church camp that both boys have been going to since elementary school. This is the second year that Brainy Bird has been a counselor while Little Chirp was a camper. Prior to that, Brainy Bird was a counselor in training (CIT) for a number of years while Little Chirp was a camper.

Little Chirp attended three camps into total this summer at Slumber Falls. First, he went to the CIT training camp. I cannot believe that he is old enough to be a CIT. My baby is growing up! Shortly after his training, Little Chirp was a CIT for the youngest age group, ages 2nd and 3rd grade. He expressed that his biggest concern going into camp as a CIT was bedwetters. They have a whole class in CIT training on how to deal with a bedwetter.

Little Chirp returned from his first week as a CIT to report that there were no bedwetters. He also said the kids as a whole were a well-behaved bunch of kids. HIs only challenge is how loud little kids are. It appears that they never stop talking. Hmmm…ever wonder how Little Chirp got his blog name?

Last Saturday, the boys rolled out of town to New Braunfels for what would make Little Chirp’s third trip to Slumber Falls. I must have checked my phone a hundred times to see where they were on the road. Counselors arrive a day early for camp, so Little Chirp got to go a day early as well. The boys ate lunch at their aunt’s restaurant, and they ran into some of their camp friends. Some of Brainy Bird’s closest friends are kids that he has met at camp over the many years that he has been going.

I missed them while they were gone all week. They arrived home yesterday, just in time for dinner. I got the full run down on camp from the boys while we dined on tuna steaks, scalloped potatoes, and salads. Little Chirp gave me an A+ For my tuna marinating skills. He then seared the steaks for us to enjoy. They were delicious!

As we dined, I got the low down on camp. I could tell the boys had an amazing week. The only complaint was the heat. Little Chirp told us a funny story about playing hockey in the shower house when they were supposed to be cleaning. I asked if Little Chirp found a girlfriend at camp. Brainy Bird informed me that it is a good thing that he did not. Apparently, every girl at camp had a crush on him. This does not surprise me one bit. I often hear that most of the girls at school have a crush on him.

I love that the boys had a week of life without electronics. I love that they bonded over the week. Looking at the pictures, I could tell the boys spent more time in proximity of one another than they did at prior camps. It is different now that Brainy Bird is away at college during the school year.

Slumber Falls has long been a very special place for me. It feels my heart with immense joy to know that it is also a very special place for my boys.
