2015 – Week 2 – Little Chirp Makes My Week

It has been an interesting week.  On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys lost their playoff game to the Green Bay Packers.  Behind by five points, late in the fourth quarter, Tony Romo connected a beautiful 20+ yard pass to the 1 yard line with Dez Bryant.  The ruling on the field was that it was a catch.  Dez took three steps inbounds with the ball secured in his hands.  When he went to the ground he reached towards the goal line and let go of the ball.  The Green Bay coach challenged the ruling on the field, and they overturned the call, ruling it an incomplete pass, bringing the Cowboys season to a sad ending.  I so wanted to be sitting in Vegas watching a Cowboys game on a giant television screen.  I so wanted to see the Cowboys in the Super Bowl in a couple of weeks.  It is not going to happen.

Speaking of my Vegas vacation, I am on a plane headed to Las Vegas as I type.  I will have a day to myself to relax.  Then my brother and his fiancée and their friends will be arriving for some pre-wedding festivities.  On Monday, my children will have a new aunt when my brother marries his fiancée.  They are having a Vegas wedding at the Venetian.  I am so excited!!! This is my first ever Vegas wedding.

For this week’s top three events, I have plenty of great stuff to choose from.  My first top three event, which will remain at the top all year, happened on Tuesday night.  We had just gotten home from Brainy Bird’s junior high orientation.  Junior high!!  Brainy Bird will be in Junior High next year.  I will be a mother of a seventh grader…oh my!  I digress…Brainy Bird and I made clam chowder with fresh clams for dinner, and our little family was seated at the table discussing what Brainy Bird’s electives would be in junior high next year.  He was worried about what he would or wouldn’t be good at.  I said, “You don’t have to be good at everything in life.  Look at me, I am only good at two things – writing and cooking, and I am quite happy in life.”

Little Chirp then chimed in with, “No Mommy!  You are really good at three things – writing, being a good cooker, and being the best Mommy in the whole world!”

Little Chirp made my night, my week, my year.  I hope that he never grows out of telling people how he feels in his enthusiastic, clever little ways.

Highlight number 2 of my week, did I mention that I am on an airplane to Vegas?

The final highlight is a big one.  We had our first meeting as a new team for our Technology Enablement practice on Thursday.  My career is really taking off.  I am still nervous about being a consultant instead of a programmer, but I love it, and great things are happening for me professionally.  2015 is my year, and the future is bright ahead.
