I just got off the phone with Brainy Bird, that kid of mine interning on a trade floor this summer. Most importantly, he is LOVING his internship. He likes the work that he is doing, and he really likes his coworkers. His coworkers have done an amazing job of making him feel like a part of a team. Work cultures that make the nerdy types with exceptional programming skills feel valued and a part of the team are going to be very successful in the years to come. Needless to say, I am proud of my son, and I am grateful for the opportunity he has been given.
I called him to let him know that I need him to take the cheesecakes to the office tomorrow. The trade floor, where he is working, is a client of mine. I am having a work meeting over lunch with them, and they are providing the lunch. My company is providing the desert, mini cheesecakes from a locally owned bakery.
While I was picking up the cheesecakes, my boss called. I joked with him that I was in the middle of spending his money on cheesecakes. I explained to him that it is for our client meeting tomorrow. I told him how much our family loves the locally owned producer of perfection in the mini cheesecake industry. He laughed and said, “I like the sound of this.”
Little things like this make me happy.
Before the day is over tomorrow, I will have met with clients from three different countries, gone to a client breakfast, gone to a client working lunch, eaten cheesecake with the personnel on the trade floor where my son is an intern, attended the kick off for a new project, written a report for a project that I am wrapping up, and attended a going away happy hour for one of my favorite employees, well soon to be former employee. That is a long sentence to describe what is going to be a VERY long day. I will be tired when the day is over, but I am really looking forward to it.
My heart is happy and I am grateful.
