It is not even eight o’clock in the evening on the first Friday of August 2022. The sun is setting into dusk. I still have enough light to be here at my computer, with no lights on. Before long, I will need to turn the light to the front room of the house where I am sitting, or I will be sitting in the dark.

Chewey is snuggled up and snoozing on top of the desk that I am working at. Murphey is asleep under the desk. Winter is asleep on a shelf underneath my desk with her left paw stretched out and touching Murph’s giant head. Potatoe and Trooper are snuggled up together, sleeping on the floor next to my chair. The only sound is that of my computer keyboard, and the occasional light snore or heavy breath from Murphey.

The evening could not be more peaceful or relaxing. I love my furs. Sitting here with all five of them surrounding me is a moment of Zen.

The only thing that did not go my way this week was my hope for rain. The drought continues. The temperatures did cool down this afternoon and we had a light drizzle. The drizzle is not near enough rain to bring back the dying tree in my backyard.

Aside from the heat, the boys and I had an amazing week of spoiling Brainy Bird before he heads back to college. We enjoyed a Houston Restaurant Week (HRW) dinner (Search – Houston Restaurant Weeks) at Dario’s on Monday. Little Chirp made us tuna steaks on Tuesday.

On Thursday, we did another HRW dinner at The Chef’s Table (Search – Houston Restaurant Weeks). We took Jared and Jeremy, the brothers that are the same ages as Brainy Bird and Little Chirp. My friends Ian and Barry also joined us. The dinner was incredible, one of the most delicious meals that I have ever eaten in my life. We had so much fun. I find it fascinating to witness how much food four teenagers can eat. Not a bit of food went to waste.

Brainy Bird will spend the weekend packing. The last day of his internship is next Wednesday. Where did the summer go? By this time next week, Brainy Bird will be on the road to South Carolina with his dad.

Meanwhile, Little Chirp attended his high school orientation this morning. He got all of the classes that he asked for. He is taking all advanced classes. The year will be intense for him. I know that he is ready. While his big brother is driving back to college next weekend, I will be spending time with Little Chirp. We will be back to cooking just the two of us.

High school…Little Chirp is going to high school.

Life is busy. I have almost no time to write. I could use a vacation. All that said, I am happy, and I am grateful for my life. I am grateful for the little things. I am grateful for my boys. They bring me so much happiness, and I love watching them grow. I love watching what they become.

I am grateful for my five furry sources of Zen that I will spend this quiet weekend with.
