I am riding a Metro bus to downtown for the first time in more than a decade. It is cheaper to ride the bus than it is to pay for gas and parking. While it takes a little longer to get there, one gets the time back in the sense that they can use the time on the bus to do things, like blogging, that one could not do while driving.

Little Chirp and I had an efficient morning. We were both ready to head out the door at our set time of 6:30 AM. I took a minute to look for my metro card, which meant we found ourselves stuck behind the school bus. We laughed, and we took a different route to escape the bus only to later wind up behind a different school bus. The drop off line had not yet begun to form when we pulled into the front of the high school. High school, I still cannot believe that Little Chirp is in high school.

I returned home from South Carolina on Sunday evening disappointed that my flight was delayed to the point that I missed the opportunity to spend the evening with Little Chirp. I got home to find that I missed my fur kids as much as they missed me. They competed with one another for my attention, until they realized I was not go going any where. They then settled in their favorite spots with me in the bedroom for a good night of sleep.

I awoke yesterday morning for the Labor Day holiday, not minding the long list of chores. I wanted to get the house ready for my favorite time of year, fall. Getting the house ready for fall means getting as many chores done as possible before football season gets into full swing and decorating. I have almost as many fall decorations as I do Christmas. Every year, I anticipate the cooler weather and start of the NFL season with the same excitement that I anticipated Christmas as a child. My fall decorations do not feel quite right without cooler weather, but I am happy to have the decorating done.

Once we finished our chores and the decorating, Little Chirp made a small pot of chili. I had enough to say that it was tasty, but he ate most of it. We both agreed that the weather outside is way too hot for chili, and we both agreed we wanted chili anyway. We laughed that we look forward to the week where the cool weather comes for the first time, and we wind up having chili three or four days in one week.

In my heart, yesterday was the kick off to my favorite time of year, fall, football, cool weather, and time with family. Now, if the cool weather could just catch up with my festive fall mood.
