I wish that I would have gone back to riding the bus sooner. The degree to which commuting on the bus instead of in a car distresses my day is notable. The buses now have free WiFi, so I am watching the Today Show, while I do a bit of blogging. The current story is the kick off of NFL season, and of course the fact that Tom Brady is returning for another season at age 45. NFL kicks off on Thursday evenings with a single game, and then things get into full swing on Sunday. Tonight’s game is the Rams against the Bills.
Another major news story today is record heat in the western side of the country. They are experiencing record heat with temperatures about a hundred degrees. The heat wave is putting pressure on the power grids that is of course making news. Many are asking how one can plug in their electric car when they are being told to conserve electricity.
Next up, inflation continues. The story they are going with this morning is how to save on Halloween when prices of everything are inflated. I believe that our family will simply sit this Halloween out. I do not mind Halloween, but it excites me the least out of all of the traditional fall activities.
Something that I am excited about is they are opening an adult mini golf course in Houston. This is not on this morning’s Today’s Show it is a teaser for the 3 PM edition. The somewhat, or not at all novel concept is that there are three unique courses, all indoors. One must be twenty one to enter, and there is a bar inside. It is crazy to think that in just 17 months, I can take Brainy Bird.
It is incredible how quickly life is flying by. I love my new found time to do some reflecting on my way to work. I am happy in life. I am happier than I have ever been. I do need to make a few changes. The first is my diet. I absolutely need to lose some weight. The second is my budget. My retirement plans are way off track, and I need to get back on track with a plan, and I need to find a way to include a water softener and lawn mower in that plan. The third is that I want to get back into physical shape. I can barely run a mile right now. I feel winded from the walk up a flight of stairs. That is not how I want to be. I want to get back into shape with a plan of kicking off the new year with a half marathon, like I did in the few years before Covid.
September 8th may not be the day that most people set resolutions, but today is that day for me. I am going to fast through breakfast and then feast on a salad with lemon and soy sauce for dressing at lunch. Dinner is going to be a hash of ground turkey and vegetables. I am going to replace my evening unwinding with a glass of wine with an evening dog walk/run. Then I am going to grab a shower and PJ’s to kick off the NFL season on the couch with Little Chirp.
Everyday can be a day of new beginnings; I choose today.
