We are halfway through an unseasonably warm weekend in October. I need to be working right now. Instead, I am relaxing at my computer with a cup of coffee. The dogs are outside playing together. The two became fast friends. I thought they would tolerate one another; I had no idea they would become “best spuds”.

Trooper is asleep on the cabinet that sits below the television. I love the look that he gave me this morning when I turned on the coffee grinder. The look said, “Make it stop! I have been up all night, and that noise hurts my sleep head.”

Winter and Chewey are in the back yard playing with the dogs. Winter likes to be just out of reach of Murphey; it drives him crazy. Chewey likes to dart around the yard, so that Murphey gives chase. I am not sure the neighbors appreciate the ruckus on this otherwise quiet Sunday morning.

While totally unproductive, the weekend has been nice so far. The Astros are now up 3-0 in their seven-game series with the Yankees for the American League Championship. In other words, the Astros are a win away from going to the World Series. I hope they put the Yankees away tonight, so I can focus on work this week, and we then get the extra time to rest our pitching staff. The Phillies and Padres are duking it out for the National League Championship. I am in different on who wins that series. I do hope the Padres win tonight in order to drag the series out a bit longer.

The weekend has not been all about baseball. Last night, the South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Texas A&M Aggies for the first time since A&M joined the SEC. It might actually be the first time that the Gamecocks have ever beaten A&M. I am not sure the two teams ever played before A&M joined the SEC. For me, last night was the first time that I have ever rooted against A&M. A&M’s season is a hot mess, and I wanted Brainy Bird to have the experience of a big win on his college’s home field. The Gamecocks are gaining momentum.

I am not sure who I will be rooting for when Tennessee rolls into Columbia, SC. If Tennessee is still undefeated, I would like to see them head to the National Championship. Before the Vols get to SC, they face #1 Georgia. I love SEC football even when my Aggies are having a bad year.

I can never get a read on how Little Chirp feels about college football. He expressed concern last night that the Gamecocks would score again, and the broadcasters would “show the sad cam” and it would be his dad. His dad and stepmother, both Aggies, went to South Carolina for the game this weekend. I can never tell if he cares if A&M wins. I was much younger than him when I started rooting for the Aggies.

The highlight of Little Chirp’s day yesterday was the sirloin steaks and mashed potatoes that he made for our little Astros watching party, which consisted of the two of us and the dogs. Murphey loved the mashed potatoes and little bite of steak that he got. Potatoe liked the snuggle time on the couch, while we watched the game. Little Chirp asked me all sorts of questions about baseball that I did not know the answer too. Of the major sports, I know the least about baseball.

Reflecting on it all now, yesterday was one of those seemingly ordinary days that I actually a great day.

It is now time to actually get some work done this weekend. I am working on a proposal that I want to win more than any project that I have ever pursued in my consulting career. I secretly like working on Sundays, so I can have the television on all day and watch the NFL games without feeling guilty. I am extra motivated by the work that I am doing today.

Today’s battle cry – Go VTS! Go Astros! Go Cowboys!
