I could not wait to try out my new pedals on my bike. I got them on Sunday, and it was pouring down rain on Monday, so I didn’t get to try them. On Tuesday, it was still drizzling and a little cool outside. It reminded me of the year that I got my big wheel for Christmas and could not wait to try it out. It rained and rained that year, and I finally went out in the rain to take it for its first test drive.
The B’s followed me outside with fudge pops in hand. They sat on their little Plasma cars while I got my bike out. My plan was to ride around in our cul-de-sac, so that I could get used to having my feet attached to my pedals, very much like I did when I first learned to ride my bike.
I didn’t exactly make it out of my drive on to my street. It took me about five minutes to get my left foot cliiped in, and a few more minutes to get my right foot clipped in. Then without momentum, I fell over. I hit the pavement hard. It hurt. The B’s looked on while they gobbled their fudge pops.
Brainy Bird said, “Mommy are you stuck?”
Well yeah…my knee really hurts, my bike is on top of me, and I can not get my feet undone from my pedals to get back up.
Instead of what I was thinking, I said cheerfully, “I am fine, just learning something new!”
“Oh good, I wasn’t sure who would hold my fudge bar if I had to help you,” Brainy Bird responded. He continued to chow down on what is one of his favorite snacks. Then as if to mock me, Little Chirp tilted his head sideways while he ate his own fudge pop.
In response to Little Chirp’s head tilt, Brainy Bird said, “She is okay. Sometimes you fall on a bike.”
I finally managed to get unclipped from my pedals and up off the driveway. The B’s and I put the plasma cars and my bike named Blue back into the garage and went inside to play Sorry! Sliders for the remainder of the night.
