The last time that I made blog post, Brainy Bird turned 20, and I was headed to Vegas for my first vacation with my new boyfriend. More than a month has passed since, and life continues to rock on more positive than bad beats.

It has been just over a month, yet there is so much to catch up on. Let’s start with Brainy Bird turning 20. My first born is no longer a teenager. I gifted him gift cards to our beloved Hall’s Steakhouse in Columbia, SC where he goes to school, Olive Garden and Costco. He expressed true appreciation for all of them. I suppose a sign that they are leaving the nest is when they are excited about gift cards to Costco.

My love and I headed to Vegas the weekend that Brainy Bird rounded two decades of life. Vegas was amazing. My love is a different person on vacation. If he was that happy-go-lucky all of the time, it wouldn’t work. Happy-go-lucky on vacation in Vegas was perfect. We had so much fun together. I wish that I had taken the time to write more while we were on our trip. There were so many simple, happy moments to capture. I loved him before we arrived for our trip. I loved him every minute of our trip. I love him completely and quite possibly forever.

In addition to Brainy Bird’s birthday and my trip to Vegas, the family has had a number of notable milestones.

We found out that Little Chirp is second in his class of 823 students after the first semester. There are seven more grading periods to go, and a lot can happen in the next three and a half years, but wow, second out of 823 students. That says something about Little Chirp’s hard work in the classroom. I could not be more pleased with his self drive and commitment.

Meanwhile, Brainy Bird took his first ever road trip without his parents, and his first ever Spring Break trip. Seven of them embarked on a road trip from Columbia, SC to Niagara Falls, Ontario. Not your typical Spring Break trip, but the perfect adventure for the brainiacs. They avoided the drunken hot mess of a typical Myrtle Beach Spring Break, and they had an adventure of their own.

In Canada, they are all legal drinking and gambling age. I can’t wait to hear how their trip to the casino went. Niagara Falls is also riddled with all sorts of great tourist attractions like arcades, escape games, mini-golf and a hibachi grill. They rented an AirBnB, and found lots of fun ways to spend their time. I can’t wait to hear more about it.

The drive back, which is more than twelve hours, proved to be a sub-adventure of its own. Brainy Bird’s car broke down as they were rolling into Lynchburg, Va. They had the challenge of finding a place to stay for the night, a place to have the car towed to, and finding a ride back to South Carolina while the car is being repaired. Brainy Bird and his girlfriend wound up spending two unplanned nights in Lynchburg, Va. They made the most of their time there, and they are now safely back in Columbia, SC.

I cannot wait to catch up with Brainy Bird to hear all about his trip, and he was supposed to meet his girlfriend’s parents today. I hope that all went well.

Life is moving swiftly and beautifully in so many directions. I am hanging on and enjoying every minute of the ride.
