I write every blog post in my head before I start to type. The first thing that I type in every post is the title. I already know the title because the post exists start to finish in my brain. Not today.

Writer’s block, ugh.

In writers’ workshop, which I am currently banned from, every now and then the subject of writer’s block comes up. As writers we fear writers block like John Holmes must have feared impotence. All the working writing brains swear that it will never happen to them again. I find myself assuming that the quiet, non-swearers of the group, are the current suffers on the block. Every time that I finally unlock my brain from writer’s block, I feel certain that it will never happen again. That certainty of writer’s block never happening again reminds me of the certainty in college that I will never drink again after a massive hangover.

<Disclaimer – Joke face if you are reading this, this is not me asking to be “unbanned” from writers’ workshop. I dropped out for almost two years; one can’t just show back up again. This is not church. I get it, and I believe the ban is fair.>

How do I unlock my brain? Ugh.

A common suggestion for beating writer’s block is a change of scenery. I tried that. Six cities in seven days, no luck. A second common suggestion is to read. I tried that. Four books in seven days, no luck. A third common is exercise. I tried that. Fifteen miles in seven days, no luck.

I think it is time to pull out the writing journals and take a trip down memory lane. This broke my mind free in the past.
