This morning, the Birds and I kicked off our family vacation with a trip to the movie theatre. I am pretty sure that this is the first time that the boys and their dad and I have all been to a movie together. We had argued when the Avengers came out over who got to take them. Rather than arguing this time around, we all went together. I liked this both from a standpoint of working together, and an economic standpoint. A trip to the movies is getting out of control from a cost perspective. It was nice to split the cost.
So here is our little family review of the Jurassic World, starting with Brainy Bird, who started watching the original Jurassic Park movies when he was three. I know that sounds terrible; we don’t generally let them watch violence on television, but he was so obsessed with dinosaurs when he was little. He could spend an entire day in the prehistoric exhibit at the Natural Science Museum. He loved the imagery of the dinosaurs in the original Jurassic Park movie. Brainy Birds review is as follows:
I really liked it. People were complaining about the CGI and stuff, and I was thinking the CGI today looks more realistic than the “giant puppets” that they used earlier.
Little Chirp never took the time to memorize the name of dozens of dinosaurs before he started pre-K, but he more than hopped on the Jurassic Park bandwagon, when we watched the three original movies together thanks to Netflix. He was really excited about seeing the new one today. He sat next to me, and his otherwise squirmy self only moved when something in the movie made him jump. Little Chirp’s review:
It is good. I liked the movie better than the popcorn. When the pig came out, that scared me. My favorite part was when the sea monster jumped out. I want to see it again; it is not that scary.
I am on board with both of the Birds’ reviews. I was definitely entertained though out the entire movie, and I really enjoyed it. I thought that the dinosaurs looked pretty realistic. Little Chirp really jumped when the pig (the raptor’s lunch) came hurling out of the gate. This made me laugh. The sea monster scenes were my favorites as well. I have always been fascinated with prehistoric marine life. In addition to the Bird’s thoughts on the movie, I thought that the movie had a lot of good one-liners that cracked up people of all ages. There were a number of times when Little Chirp, and the other little kid sitting next to me, and I all laughed at the same time.
I think we will start a Birds’ movie rating system:
- 5 chirps – Soars above the rest
- 4 chirps – Flapping along
- 3 chirps – Worth the bird seed
- 2 chirps – Not making it out of the nest
- 1 chirps – Not going to hatch
Our ratings for Jurassic World:
Little Chirp 4 chirps – Flapping along
Brainy Bird 5 chirps – Soars above the rest
Me 4 chirps – Flapping along
