We had a big meeting today about the logistics for the MS150. It is exciting to see the size of our team. The room itself had an energetic vibe to it today. Box lunches were provided, but I found myself too nervous to eat more than half a sandwich. I am much more nervous about the upcoming ride than I was for my first marathon.
I may have my head in the clouds myself, but our co-workers that are in charge of the logistics for the MS150 are totally on top of it. I wonder if this is the first time that they have put something like this together, or if they have learned from years past. I know that it is the first time in a long time that my company has put together a team. I am proud of the awesome job they are doing.
Some major highlights of today’s meeting:
– Cots are available for just 20 bucks at Academy. Oddly, what I am going to sleep on is one of my biggest concerns. I love my sleep. I have a hard time sleeping in strange places. I am also worried about having a nightmare, but that is another story all together.
– They collect our overnight stuff at the office a day or two before the ride, so it does not matter where we start from, our stuff will find its way to LaGrange, which is where we camp over night on Saturday. I am scared of getting to La Grange and having nothing but my sweaty riding clothes!
– There will be beer at our overnight place (La Grange). This may seem silly, but I really believe that beer is great carbs after a long ride and the night before another long ride.
– I wasn’t paying close enough attention, but I think a guy suggested people could change clothes in front of him. I wonder if this is the same guy that sent an email to 90+ of his co-workers warning us not to wear underwear.
Things that I am still not sure about:
– Should I start in Waller? Waller is bad luck for me, that is where the ride started that I had the incident with hitting the car. Speaking of that, Matt/Matthew called and asked me to have lunch with him that day. It was a Friday, and I was tired and swamped at work, so I suggested that some other day would be better. He said that he would call me one day the following week and then never called. One of my friends suggested that he had been hit by another girl on a bike over the weekend. I thought that was funny.
– The upside to starting in Waller is that I think that Waller will be less crowded, and it is closer to me than the other starting point. I am totally up in the air on where to start, but I am glad to know that it is up to me. Another downside to starting in Waller is that the starting time is much later. I want to start as early as possible.
– Sitting here at Lupe Tortillas off 249 the service at this place is consistently terrible. (Mike if you are reading this, do something about it!)
– Am I going to be starving the whole weekend? Should I try to pack food? I am always so paranoid about buffet style food. At a race it is even worse, volunteers are handling it, and sweaty riders are serving themselves. UGH!!!! I usually just do not eat until I get home. I can’t go the whole weekend without eating and ride 180 miles on a bike.
– If I bring my teddy bear to sleep with am I going to get made fun of? I need some sort of comfort from home.
I have lost track of the number of people that have asked me if I am ready for next week. YES, let’s go!!
