New Perspective on Dating – Post 5 – Lion Heart

Lion Heart is another example of someone that I would not have had two dates, or even one date with if it were not for my Modern Romance dating experiment.  Give me one word to describe Lion Heart, and I am going to go with, “Attractive“.  He is exceptional looking.  One of those guys that the waitress makes goo glee eyes at.  Give me a second word to describe him, and I am going to take three words and go with, “Intellectually, open minded“.

I feel out of my league when I am with him, but he never does the slightest thing to make me feel that way other than sharing with me his life experiences and ideas.  He is affectionate, and he is always complimenting me.  Right or wrong, I like compliments.  Okay, I love compliments, sincere compliments that is.

Lion Heart is an introvert. I am not sure if he is shy too, but my sense is that he is both.  Prior to our first date, he called me on the phone, and it was a somewhat awkward conversation.  I almost didn’t agree to a date, but according to the Modern Romance dating rules (see the Modern Romance – Post 1 – Introduction post), I had no reason to not agree to a first date.

He was late for our first date, but that was more than okay as it was an impromptu Saturday afternoon lunch, and I didn’t mind enjoying an iced tea and getting some work done while I waited on him. We had lunch, which consisted of a great deal of talking about two things – food and football.  You can never go wrong with me and discussions on the f words.

Lion Heart is a Penn State graduate (that’s how I came up with his blog name), and he told me more than I ever knew about the scandal with the coach molesting boys and the destruction of Joe Paterno’s legacy. Unlike most men discussing football or anything topical, Lion Heart has facts with which to tell his story.  He shares his insights and opinions and the facts on which they are based.  And he never acts like we are a couple of intellectuals and that I should know something that I don’t.  He is highly intelligent and happy to keep that fact to himself.

I don’t think that Lion Heart has mastered the art of expressing an opinion without coming across as opinionated; I think that he was born with this ability. He is so unassuming, natural and engaging.   Our date went from lunch to a food festival where we did some people watching to wine at Del Frescoes on Hughes’ Landing.  Hughes’ Landing is a beautiful waterway lined with fountains and restaurants and such in the Woodlands, which is a part of Houston.

I had two concerns as our first date came to an end. The first being the more immediate concern, and that was that he would not kiss me.  The second concern was that he would not ask me for a second date.  I did in fact get a first date kiss, a great first date kiss, and I found irony in the fact that I worried that I wouldn’t be asked on a second date by a guy that I almost didn’t agree to have a first date with.  I did in fact get a second date, and that was a great date as well.  Lion Heart is out of the country for the next couple of weeks, and I am hoping to be asked for a third date when he returns.
