From a running perspective, I had the best January that I have ever had. I would have had a best month ever if I had not gotten sick this last week. The new year is off is off to an excellent start. Running is definitely a focus for me this year. I am wondering if I should attempt a marathon or if I should focus on getting faster at a shorter distance. Rather than figure the whole year now, I am taking it one month at a time. I am going to spend each month trying to set a different personal record. My running app kindly reminds me that I did not have a single personal best in the year of 2017. One could debate that I am getting older, and so I should be getting slower. I do not like that debate. I like the idea of striving to be better and better every year of my life.
In the month of February, I am going to try to break my 1 mile record. I have Little Chirp to chase after on this one. My 1 mile record time is 7 minutes and 28 seconds. Little Chirp’s best is just under 7 minutes flat. It will give us another special activity together, and Little Chirp is great at keeping a person motivated.
The second goal for each month is that I am going to run a total of 10 hours each month, and I want to run a little further in this time each month. The month of January, I ran 10 hours, and I did a total of 53.88 miles in this time. Next month, I would like to do a total of 55 miles in this time, so I will need to do 5.5 miles each hour. That might seem like a lot in an hour, but it isn’t when one considers that I once ran 6.84 miles in one hour. My running app kindly reminds me of this personal record.
I have no doubt that I can be fast again. I just need to stay focused. Running has always been a passion of mine. I am not sure what made me shy away from it in 2017, but running will definitely be a priority this year.
2018 is off to a great start!
