I have been sick for weeks now. The flu is the worst that has been in about a decade. Hospitals are near capacity in our area because so many people have been admitted for complications from flu and severe colds. This is the longest that I can ever remember being sick. I went to work on days when I should not have, and I had three days that I simply could not get to work. I do not ever remember feeling as tired as I have been the past couple of weeks.
Today, while I am still not 100%, I felt the best that I have felt in a really long time. I was able to start my work day at 6 AM, and not finish until 7 PM. It felt good to have the stamina to make it through such a long day, and to be in good spirits. Today was seemingly an ordinary day, but I felt warm and happy inside, grateful for my health.
On a work front, we have been building a data analytics solution for a long time, and we met late in the day to walk through the solution. What we have is exceptional, and I love the collaboration and team effort that has gotten us to where we are. On Monday, I was still feeling sick, and I was dreading Friday’s demo of our data analytics solution to the entire practice. Today, having my health restored, and being able to take a step back and look at what we have built has me looking forward to Friday.
My last meeting started at 6 PM tonight. We were meeting with a team in Singapore, and to work out from a timing perspective, they had what for them is an early meeting, and we had what is a late meeting for us. I enjoyed the comradery, and I reflected on how far I have come in my consulting career. Two of the guys that we met with this evening just became consultants after a stretch of work experience from industry jobs.
During the meeting, I got a text message from Little Chirp’s dad with Little Chirp’s big news. Little Chirp made the robotics team. More than 80 children tried out, and only 20 made the team. I was so excited to get this news. Little Chirp stayed with his dad tonight. I called his dad on my drive home to discuss the exciting news that Little Chirp made the robotics team. I laugh at our conversation as we discussed that most of the kids that make the team are the Gifted and Talented (GT) kids. We both cannot understand how Little Chirp is not in the GT group. Funny, we are “those parents”. Isn’t our Little Chirp the brightest of them all?
My last to-do today was to pick up Brainy Bird from driver’s education. CRAZY!!!! I am still getting used to this. Brainy Bird had taken a test, and he said there were a couple of questions that they had not yet covered in class, so he guessed at them. I had him run these questions by me. I did not know the answers. DOH!
Life is good. Today was my first ordinary day in a long time. I like ordinary days. 🙂
