Our family is seriously considering getting a dog.  There is a dog named Potatoe at a rescue shelter that appears to be a perfect fit for our little family.  The dog is larger than I imagined we would have, but his giant nose and calm demeanor are beyond charming.

I first met Potatoe on Saturday.  I went to the rescue shelter in search of a small dog, and I became fast friends with the big-nosed pooch.  I could have spent the whole day with him in the get acquainted area.  Potatoe is shy at first.  He does not bark or jump up.  He simply observes.  Then once he feels comfortable, he will move in to get a scratch behind the ear or pat on the head.

On Sunday, I went back to the rescue shelter with Dog Mom.  She has three dogs herself.  She saw immediately why I thought that Potatoe is a good fit for our family.  Potatoe recognized me, and first he put his head forward for me to pet him and then he jumped up excitedly and barked as if he was inviting me to play.

Little Chirp can hardly wait to meet Potatoe.  I am looking forward to making the introduction.  I asked Little Chirp what we would name Potatoe if we brought him home.  What kind of name is Potatoe?  Brainy Bird chimed into the conversation saying that he loves the name Potatoe.  He says that it is the perfect weird name for a dog.  He offered to survey his friends on whether they thought it is a good name, but I said I would take his word for it.

The next step is getting Potatoe.  There is something special about this dog, and I do not think that we are going to be only ones that want to adopt him.  The process works like this.  On Friday’s the rescue shelter posts the dogs that are ready for adoption online.  You can then go as early as 7 AM on Saturday to get a number.  At 11 AM when the shelter opens, the person with the first number gets to choose their dog first.

I am going to continue to visit Potatoe on every Saturday and Sunday until he is finally ready for adoption.  Then I am going, I am going to get to the adoption kennel at 6:45 AM to be first line to adopt Potatoe.  I hope that we will have a new furry family member very soon.
