It is 5:08 PM on a Friday afternoon. My smart watch says that I have completed 90 minutes of exercise and burned 900 active calories. I figured that winding the day down with French fries and a beer at my favorite sports bar was in order. I feel relaxed and happy inside. This is not a result of the beer; it is a result of a week of hard work.
The birds headed back to school this week. Little Chirp is now in 5th grade, which means he goes to a new school. Brainy Bird is in 10th grade. Little Chirp has come home exhausted from each day of school. In 5th grade, they have lockers and change classes for the first time. Little Chirp says that he likes this. I worry that he is going to get lost in the shuffle.
In contrast to his brother, Brainy Bird has come home energized after each day of school. I feel like Brainy Bird has a clear idea of where he wants to go in life, and he has a clear idea of how to get there. There is also the fact that I told him that if he gets a 5 on his World History Advanced Placement test that his reward could be something with 4 wheels. He so wants a car when he turns 16. Doesn’t every boy want a car at 16? If he brings home a 5 on the test, I plan to surprise him with a little bike with training wheels, which has 4 wheels! I do want to buy him a car, but finances are tight as property taxes continue to rise, there is uncertainty in my life from a career standpoint, and the cost of Brainy Bird’s college looms.
That might all seem like a great deal of stress. Quite the contrary, I say my prayers each day, I work hard, and I relax – let the chips fall where they may. Instead of worrying about the things in life that I cannot control, I am looking ahead with a warm heart as my favorite time of the year is upon us.
Football season!!!!!!! We kick off the NFL season on September 6th. I am not sure what to expect from any of my favorite teams, which are the Cowboys, Texans and Saints in that order. It does not matter. I love football season. Our high school team is slated to be really terrible, and I look forward those games as well.
Little Chirp’s next basketball league starts soon. His passion for the game is incredible. Brainy Bird is extremely focused on Computer Science competitions and robotics this year, and I am excited to see how that goes.
In September, Brainy Bird and I will be making a trip to Atlanta to visit Georgia Tech. October will bring the cool weather, which should make me even faster. I am running more than I have ever run in my life, and I feel amazing. In November, the Birds and I are going to South Padre with Dog Mom and her crew for Thanksgiving. The boys love them. I can’t wait for great home cooked food and the beach. In December, the boys are getting surprised with a trip to Disney Land, and I am having a “me vacation” the early part of December. Come January, I am not sure what my New Year’s resolution will be. If I stay on track, which I know I will. I will have lost all of the weight that I want to lose by then.
Life is amazing. The Birds are amazing. The people in my life are amazing. Perhaps, my New Year’s resolution needs to be to spend more time on the blog. I am always so crazy busy. I forget to take the time to capture all of the great memories along the way.
