It is 67 degrees outside on a Sunday evening. The air is crisp and fresh with a gentle breeze whispering from the lake. Potatoe and I are hanging on the back porch watching a beautiful sunset in the making. The evening is perfect for a reflection and writing.
Yesterday, was Brainy Bird’s second homecoming. For those of you not living in the great state of Texas, homecoming is huge in Texas. Brainy Bird asked a girl to be his date this year. She is beautiful, kind and just as smart as he is. Brainy Bird announced about a month ago at dinner that he wanted to ask this girl to homecoming. They are adorable together. Their homecoming group consisted of 7 girls and 4 boys. They began the evening here at our house taking pictures, and then they headed over to Campioni’s. Campioni’s is an Italian restaurant that is a little further from where we live, so they were not packed for homecoming. After dinner, the crew went to Marble Slab before going to the dance.
I was so tired yesterday. My work week was more than 60 hours, plus a trip to Oklahoma City. At some point during the week, I felt completely overwhelmed. I had so much to do for work and getting ready for homecoming. Dog Mom and Sunshine were with me every step of the way. Dog Mom made a mum for Brainy Bird’s homecoming date, and Sunshine drove him to her house for the big mum exchange. Sunshine and Dog Mom helped me make the corsages. They were all so beautiful. We made one for every girl’s Brainy Bird’s group.
Last night ended with me, Dog Mom, Sunshine, and Chad and Aimee sitting at my neighbors bar catching up. I was too tired to carry on a conversation, but it was a perfect ending to an amazing day. I loved hearing Aimee’s stories about her own boys going to homecoming. She had three this year! That’s crazy. She has a son that is Brainy Bird’s age, and a freshman, and a third child living with her that is a sophomore.
Time is flying by. I say that a lot in this blog. It feels like yesterday that Brainy Bird has his freshman homecoming, and now already he has had his sophomore homecoming. In 3 and a half months he will have his driver’s license. It is hard to believe.
Another long week lies ahead, but I am ready for it. I love my life. Stay tuned….
